About The Food of Love
TIMING
Auditions are on a rolling basis and must be submitted by 1/2 for fullest consideration.

ABOUT
The Food of Love is a queer, gourmand adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac. In the 2019-2020 versions, the audience dined in-person at MOCA on the same five courses the characters did in the story. For the 2021 version, audiences will tune in to five courses of radio theater and enjoy delicious recipes at home.

The classic story (and our adaptation) centers on a love triangle between the insecure but talented Cyrano (Alex, a chef), handsome but tongue-tied Christian (Chris, a real estate agent), and the intelligent and desirable Roxanne (Roxy, a museum curator). The trio is in their thirties per the story. While voice acting makes casting more flexible, you DO need to be able to handle Spice Girls lyrics gracefully.

Please note that the role of Alex (our Cyrano, he/him/his) has been cast (Andres D. Bravo, who is also co-writing the 2021 script).

DIRECTOR FRANK E SANABRIA II SEEKS...
  • an actor to voice Roxy (our Roxanne, she/her/hers)
  • an actor to voice Chris (our Christian, he/him/his)
  • Possibly a  narration voice for this fresh format (no restrictive pronouns)
Actors who represent the global majority (BIPOC) are especially encouraged to audition. The script stipulates that the cast be diverse.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Rehearsals will occur over Zoom and actors will record takes on their local computers in a quiet space using microphones (Phase Eight will provide as needed) and headphones (Phase Eight can provide basics as needed).
  • A stable-enough internet connection is necessary to best participate and share performance files in a timely fashion for editing.
  • Phase Eight offers a stipend ($100 minimum) for all creative team members on the project.
  • Phase Eight will provide actors a three-hour masterclass with a full-time voice actor and audiobook narrator, Lindsey Dorcus.

Please reach out to phase8theater@gmail.com with any questions. If you’re ready to audition, it’s as simple as completing this form including an uploaded self-tape (.mp3 or unlisted YouTube, Google Drive, etc. link) reading the narration and character sides (https://tinyurl.com/folsides).
"My favorite kind of theatre is theatre that makes you think; a show that leaves you stuck in your seat, wanting just a few more moments to soak up the confrontation you are now faced with processing.  Phase Eight delivered on that."
